To make industries and services smarter, more flexible and more efficient wherever they are, Dr. Zhaopeng Chen and Peter Meusel ­– two of the most enthusiastic and renowned robotics researchers at the German Aerospace Center – pool their knowledge and found Agile Robots. Together with eight other DLR experts, they start their journey.

Our first robot, Diana 7, makes its debut. This industrial, lightweight, seven-axis robot is particularly well suited for complex and highly sensitive tasks and manipulation. Version 1.0 is successfully used from the beginning to install electronic components in smartphones, tablets, PCs and more. 

Agile Robots opens its first production facility in China to cater to the production requirements of the world’s leading automotive, consumer tech and healthcare companies. Today, Agile Robots is manufacturing world-class automation solutions and industrial robots at over 15 sites around the world.

The company’s management system is now officially certified for developing and producing robotic systems by the certification body All-Cert. The ISO 9001 certification is an internationally recognized standard which ensures that a company maintains a documented system of quality management and quality assurance.

Japan-based SoftBank, the world’s largest tech investor, teams up with Agile Robots to advance the rapid internationalization of the Germany-based deep-tech unicorn. Together, Agile Robots and SoftBank, by now the anchor investor, push the boundaries of artificial intelligence and rethink industrial automation.

Agile Robots opens its first production facility in Germany on a 2,700 m² site in the Bavarian town of Kaufbeuren. An extremely strong supplier industry and a high concentration of well-trained specialists make the location special to this day. At the same time, production in China is further expanded to meet rapidly growing demand.

Idealworks, a BMW Group spin-off, and BÄR Automation join Agile Robots. The deep-tech company Idealworks develops a robotics ecosystem for the automotive industry that aims to revolutionize the world of intralogistics in production. German special-purpose mechanical engineering specialist BÄR Automation offers tailored system solutions to large-scale industrial manufacturers. By acquiring the majority share of both automotive specialists, we are driving the future of automotive production.

Franka Robotics, one of the world’s leading pioneers of robotics technology and the reference robotics platform for leading researchers, becomes part of Agile Robots. The Munich-based company develops robots with a human-like sense of touch to advance industries like agriculture, healthcare, hospitality and retail. Combining world-class AI and software expertise with leading robot technology boosts Agile Robots’ innovative power.

To expand its global presence and respond to increasing demand on the Indian market, Agile Robots opens its first production site in Chennai. Here in India’s booming hotspot for electronics hardware and software, the number of robot installations has more than doubled in recent years.
